Well, as most of you know, 2 weeks ago one of my Rat's had a litter of 12 babies.

  4. Wow, they grow quickly. What is their lifespan? I'm just curious.

  5. An average life for a rat would be about 3-4 years - Usually 5 is the longest.

  6. aww I love rittens (as we call them in the livejournal community: ratties)!

I miss having rats :'( It was just too sad losing them after only 2 years, they need to live 20 years, I bond with ratties so much it's just so hard to let go.

Anyways, on a lighter note, are you keeping the babies or are you finding homes for them once they are old enough?!

  7. Our last rat of a pair had to be put down last week and It's sad in the house without her..... Butterscotch RIP. :( But we had never had rats before and have found they make wonderful, entertain and loving pets. Hope all your brood is well and happy! thanks for sharing your newest babies with us. :)

  8. Aurora: I am so sorry for your loss of Butterscotch :(

I know the feeling :( I've been fortunate that most of my rats have lived about 4 years or more. But one of my favorite rats (Harry) only lived about a year :'( So, I know how hard it can be.

I am going to keep the babies. It is too hard to find homes where they don't become food - So to ensure they are happy, they will stay :D
