Sorry again for this being late! With this new exercise group, I have just been SO exhausted! I couldn't even move yesterday, lol.
So anyways, I did some "cage changing" about 3 weeks ago. (I just put different rats into different cages, so that they could have a new change of scenery.) Well one of my females (Lucy) decided to be sneaky - She squeezed threw the bars of the new cage she was in, and she snuck into one of the boys cages. I ended up finding her in there the next day, and of course she got pregnant.
This picture was taken on Tuesday night - And I am happy to say she had her babies early Wednesday morning.
So I took pictures yesterday about 2 hours after they were born. She had 12 babies! (Wow!)
All seem healthy so far :)
I am going to take pictures every day, and then next Wednesday (for Wordy Wednesday) I am going to show pictures of them everyday, so you can all see how fast they age, and how short of time it takes them to grow up. (I plan on doing this for every Wordy Wednesday, until they are full grown :) )
Here are a couple pictures of the babies (Pinkies) on their first day of life :)
Take notice of the milk in their tummy's :)
By next week I'll be able to tell you all what colors they'll be - If they'll be hairless, or not, and possibly if they will be males or females :)
I can't wait till next week :)
Cute! Congrats on the new family members!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I love them! I really want a rat, but with a dog, 3 cats, and 5 fish, we've got more than enough critters right now. Someday I'll have a rat. Are they exceptionally social so I should plan on two? Or is one ok?
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
ReplyDeleteLarissa,
I just sent you an email as well - But incase anyone else is wondering the same thing, I'll reply here as well.
Rats are very social. So if you spend a ton of time with them, then it is okay to have just one, but I would definitely recommend having 2, because ratties are known to get depressed when they get lonely.
Wow! I had no idea they had such short gestation periods! That's crazy! Congrats on the new members!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen baby rats in ages. I hope you have some hooded ones!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing the pictures of your babies. We had rats when my eldest daughter was younger (we got the class pet when kindergarten was over). We ended up with several cages of rats and it was so much fun for the kids in my home daycare. It's been at least 10 years since we had a rat but I still kept one of the cages. They were such gentle pets.
ReplyDeleteyou're a gramma! lol
ReplyDeletetoo stinkin cute! there sure are alot of the little buggers!
Thats alot of babies! Betcha Lucy doesnt go to those boys cages anytime soon !
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to watching the little ones grow up. They're so adorable.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, they are so tiny. Excited to see pics of them growing up.
