Guest Post: How to Save Money with Hamemade Beauty Products

How to Save Money With Homemade Beauty Products
Homemade beauty products can save you lots of money and are much safer for your skin and hair. Some people feel too intimidated or afraid to trying to make their own cosmetics, bath products, skin creams and makeup and their own fragrances, but there really isn’t a need to be intimidated. Decorative soaps are easily made and the savings are amazing because most of these products are made from items right out of your home.

Ingredients From Home
The things you buy at the grocery store today and put in your pantry are the very ones that you can make your homemade beauty products with and save hundreds of dollars. In no time at all you can be making your own scented and colored bath salts, bath bombs, body scrubs, facials, lip balms and more. Some of the ingredients you will be using to make your homemade products are brown sugar, plain yogurt, olive oil and sea salt. You may have to pick up a few of these items, but the cost of these is far less than any other beauty product you can buy.

Mark Up Costs
Homemade products allow you to save a lot of money over commercial beauty products. Most people don’t realize that products like bath sales are marked up at retail stores by a whopping 600 percent! That is just outrageous. When you see how easy and cheap it is to make your own, you will be amazed. Lavender bath salts can be made in five minutes with lavender oil, glycerin, baking soda, sea salt and Epsom salts. You would probably pay a minimum of $15 for this product at a store which is triple what they can be made for at home.

Aloe Vera
Did you know that the leaves of the aloe vera plant have a continuous supply of moisturizer that is great for the skin? The leaves contain a gel that has polysaccharides which moisturize the skin and you can purchase a plant for about $7.00 and you have years and years of a natural moisturizing agent. Take that $7.00 plant and compare it to the cost of a $20.00 bottle of moisture and look how easily you can begin to see your savings. If you wash your face and slit open an aloe leaf, squeeze the gel out and rub it all over your face and throat you have just used one of the best moisturizers ever. No chemicals or additives are in the aloe leaf, just all natural and safe products for all types of skin.

Herb Deodorant
Homemade herb deodorants are easy to make and cost about $2.00 versus the brands at the stores that cost $4.00 to $5.00. Not only is the cost much higher, but the store bought antiperspirants contain hazardous derivatives and aluminum salts that are not the best in the world for the skin.

When you start researching just how easy and inexpensive it is to make homemade beauty products, you will be surprised at what you learn and how much money you save.

  1. I love the idea of making stuff like this from home, I plan to try someday. I was more motivated to try before using coupons but now that i can get almost all of our personal care items for free or nearly free it's harder to justify the time. :)

  4. I always see 'homemade' beauty regimens on shows like Today or The Doctors, but I've never gotten around to making any. I'd like to I just always forget the ingredients when I'm shopping. Great post-I really have to make some-regular products are getting so expensive and filled with chemicals! (Raine on the RC)
