Ryobi 18V One+ Cordless Pole Saw Review

Disclosure: I received free product from Ryobi in exchange for writing this post. All opinions are my own.

Here in Florida, we have palm trees everywhere. It is a norm, to see them hundreds of times throughout the day. In fact, I have 3 right in my front yard.

If you aren't familiar with palm trees, one thing you might not know is that palm trees actually require a LOT of maintenance. They are constantly growing, and when they grow, the dead branches stack up underneath the new branches just pile on top.

As you can see - We haven't had the tools to maintain our palm trees, in some time. So when I was given an opportunity to review the 18V One+ Cordeless Pole Saw, I was very excited!

Pretty much, this is a chain saw on a pole - So you can get high to reach places with ease. Honestly, I had never used a chain saw before.. So I was actually looking forward to a new adventure with a power tool.

First we got everything out and ready.

There isn't really must set up to do. You just put a couple pieces together, and the battery already comes with a charge - So after a few screws, you're ready to go. We didn't waste any time. Aaron being the guy he is, was of course, also excited. We actually had to argue over who got you use it first, lol!

When it comes time to charging, it's really easy. You have a detachable lithium battery, and you simply plug it in.

When it's ready, it lights up green, and then you're set to start cutting some more!

We didn't really waste anytime (This is probably the first time I have ever been excited to do yard work, lol!) and got right to it.
The first thing we did, was add on the extended pole, to make it longer. The only negative thing I would say about the whole thing, is that when you are using the pole with the etension added on, it is pretty hard to control, which would worry me a little bit if you did not have to hold down the button to keep the chain spinning. However, as soon as you let the handle go, it instantly turns off, so you don't have to worry about an accident.

Once you find a sturdy stance, it's a breeze, and it really cuts through branches so smoothly. When it does cut through there is a little pull, but it's not bad, at all.

As you can see from our video, it is very quick, and only takes a few seconds to cut a branch. We had lots of fun cutting our palm trees, and even cut some branches from our other grown trees.

I've loaned my pole saw out to 4 different people already, and it has done wonders for us all. The fact that it takes a rechargeable battery, and not gas is just a life saver on cost.

Overall, I would highly recommend Ryobi. They have practical, and affordable equipment, that really gets the job done.  Plus, you can't deny the awesome color!

  34. We have lots of these palm trees in south Texas, too, and it can be expensive to pay someone to keep up with them, so there are lots of shaggy looking palms around. This is a great solution to that. I love the safety feature you mentioned, too, in that it will shut itself off when you let go of the handle, as that would be my first concern.
