Painting A Space
Painting a space is one of the easiest ways to add color to your living room. However, if you get sick of that color anytime soon, its going to take some time and money to repaint over it. Another option to consider instead is an accent wall. Instead of painting all 4 walls in the living room like normal, you would instead pick a feature wall – just one wall, and paint that. Sometimes when you paint all 4 walls you realize what a mistake it is – not the right color, color doesn’t coordinate properly with your style or lighting (artificial or natural) or even sometimes it can make a room darker than you want. With an accent wall you won't have any of this and since its one wall, if you get sick of the color, you only need to repaint one wall!
Paint The Inside Of Your Shelves
If you have built in or flush against the wall shelves or cabinets that are open, you can actually paint the walls behind the shelves. This will, of course, add color, but its incredibly easy and quick. All you need is a paintbrush and a mini roller for those tight spaces.
Paint The Flooring
Almost any flooring from concrete to wood can actually be painted you just have to go about it in the proper way. There are a lot of guides and naturals online to teach you how to do this. Even if you have a white tile floor, adding some geometric zigzags in black can actually add quite the difference in your living room!
Paint The Dog
Just kidding! Another cool thing you can do is to actually paint items you have in your living room like an armoire, TV stand, wicker console and more. These are quite easy to paint and they take very little money to do so. Make sure if you are doing a wicker item to get both a paint on paint, as well as the same color as a spray paint. This spray will get into all the nooks that a paintbrush can't reach, and its fun! Make sure that you do this outside and set down a drop cloth beforehand and wear a mask.
Add Art Work
If you go to virtually any store these days they have canvas prints, oil based prints, illustrations and more where you can purchase them for your home. These are also a great way to add color to your living room and they come in so many different colors and sizes, as well as frame options to add variation of color and depth to a space.
Reupholster Your Furniture
You can also find upholstery covers – or you can make your own. These work like slip covers and will slip right over your existing furniture. If you want something a little more seamless and streamlined you can also think about picking up a fabric you really like and taking it to an upholstery business and they can take the old fabric off and put the new one on. An easy way to add a pop of color.
Accentuate Architectural Features
If you have wood beams in your living room and they are bare – paint em! If you already have them painted, repaint them for a different color pallet. Another option if you have wooden stairs with wooden posts is to paint the posts or paint the steps. Actually, painting your steps is becoming more and more of a trend these days and there are a lot of cool designs. Examples:
Throw Pillows
Extra budget friendly. Throw pillows are pillows that you don’t necessarily use to lounge on per se, but they are for your chairs and couches. They come in SO many different colors, styles, and options, as well as material types. They are a great way to add color to a room and since they are
so inexpensive, you can even take one of the other options from above and coordinate colors in the room to add even more color and vibrancy! Speaking of throws, you can also do throw blankets. These can be functional and be used and again, they come in all sorts of colors, shapes, styles and fabrics. These can be nonchalantly thrown on the back of a chair or a couch, they can be folded, they can be stacked using 1, 2 or 3 different colors. Really use your imagination!
