Projects/Art

Octopus
Personally, this was my favorite piece, It was fun (and hard!) to make.  It's just my favorite because I had originally planned to make a sort of cartoon looking octopus, but after I was finished I was left with this! I was very happy. Even though he dosen't look like a cartoon, he's still super cute and looks nice in my room :).
I made him from clay, and I painted him with glaze :)
5 different colors- Dark Blue, Royal Blue, Blue, Light Blue and Chartruese.

Mr. Peanut
I have to be completly honest, when I first started making this piece I had no idea what it was going to be, so I just kept adding to it, (With coils, this was a coil pot) and when it got about to where the neck it, I said oh my goodness, I know, it will be Mrs.Buttersworth, so that was the plan, (I'm sure you can see the womanly figure) but as I was working on it some more, it hit me. It actually could be Mr. Peanut. So Voila! There he is! He's treasured around my house , my grandma just adores him.

Whistle
I love this piece because it's super fun. It was supposed to originally be an anteater, but I'm not positive it looks like one lol :) But it IS a whistle, when you blow into his nose/mouth it makes a high pitch whistle. It was really hard for me to get a clay piece to whistle. But I did it, and I'm proud of it :)
ESCAPE
I'm sure you a lot of you don't know that I suffer from Depression and Bi Polar Disorder, as well as a personality disorder. Well thanks to those 3 things, I wound up creating this piece "ESCAPE" is what I called it, because whenever I got upset about something or depressed I would work on it, and it would completely drain m my mind of any of the negative energy I had. As you can see the inside even says "ESCAPE" This piece was done with clay. It is called a slab pot. That's when you roll clay and make it very thin, then you wrap it around something (I used a bottle) and that's how you get the shape. Design was by me of course. AND this piece was featured on the Bonita Springs Art League Hand out, AND it was featured in the "Bonita Living" Magazine. I have a few copies if anyone would like one, just let me know :).
Raku
The Piece below, was the last piece I ever did at the Bonita Springs Art League, I would have liked to continue with more, but for financial reasons I couldn't. This piece was actually a Raku piece. which is so fun, and different then a normal pottery session. You have to put it in like a homemade type kiln. and It's just crazy to watch, and so fun :)! I made the piece on a potter's wheel.

I love testing my skills; and by that I mean I am very open minded to things. I love to try new things and I love working on things that are difficult and hard; it challenges me to be my best and gives me something to do!

Project: How to... Build a spacious rat cage
Ok, Step by Step Im going to tell you how to build a cage that your small animal will love.
Supplies:
1 Kiddie Pool
2 or more large rolls of Chicken Wire
A drill
Zip Ties
Wire Cutters

How to..
Ok you have all your supplies.. Make sure to have them all near by. Take the Chicken Wire and unroll it inside the Kiddie Pool. Match the drill up in the squares to the pool and drill holes. One at the second to the bottom square and 1 2 from down from the top of the pool. Do this all the way around The pool until you have a big enclosure. Carefully cut the stop shape with the wire cutters and zip tie it to the cage.  With the Wire cutters cut a square for a door (leave the bottom line of the square attatched) You can use Zip ties for this but It an be a pain because you will have to cut the zip ties every time you want to go in the cage, So it is easier to go to the local hardware store and buy a type of latching hook for each side.  Make sure to add alot of fun play things inside the cage, like ropes for climbing,  huts, chews, soft bedding, hammocks, toilet paper tubes and whatever else you can think of tht is Rat Safe. Your End product should turn out to something like this..
Note: You can also skip the Chicken Wire and Just have play area that needs to be always supervised for your pet. You can actualy make this cage for under 35 dollars if you already have the power tools.

If you have any questions about making a pool cage or you need help please feel  free to ask me :)

Turtle Stone Sculpture
Yes, I have done sculpture. when I first started I was hesitant because you know... One little mistake and your piece is ruined. But I went ahead and did it and I made my first Master Piece. I have never been more proud of my art work. I guess this one is most special to me because I took something as ugly as a rock and made it into something so gorgeous. My piece was made from a Soap stone, Don't let the name fool you, it's still hard as a rock! :) Well here is my piece. I hope you can all relate and I hope this can inspire you to try new  things. I won 2 scholarships for this piece! Oh and so you can all tell it is really my work please note that my name is engraved onto the piece. :)!

  12. I really liked the Raku piece - it's beautiful. You should definitely apply for an art scholarship - or maybe you can get a job at an art studio and be like an apprentice.

Good job. I'm following you know - can't remember if you are following me and that's how I found you. If you'd like to follow me, I'm at: http://familyliteracyandyou.blogspot.com
    http://givingnsharing.blogspot.com

If you aren't on mombloggersclub.com you might look at that or some of the other blogging clubs - you can find things to review that way. You might also find some of the other art companies and maybe studios and ask them if you can do a review for them in exchange for supplies or maybe a membership (I'd do a series of articles or reviews for them) if you have a studio or something in your area.

  15. Amanda...I am wow'd! I love the Raku piece. I did some of the pottery in high school (a million years ago) and it really was a great way to release and be creative. I still think about the scene in Ghost every time I see a piece of pottery or clay work. I've always wanted to take more classes at our tech college as my two sisters did, but now my joints are too locked to do this because of health junk. I missed my chance.
very impressive with the cage too! You are very creative and talented. I agree...you need to get into art school somewheel or try to do an apprenticeship so others learn to know your work. You are so young and have so many options! I know most of this is for your own pleasure? but dont miss your chance to leave your mark on the art world...it would be a shame not to keep going to classes. What about having a donation page? I know some might not like that but I have seen it on other blogs. I wish I could help but not right now.
