The Rats

Welcome to the Rat Page :)!

This page is dedicated to all of my adorable ratties!

Rat's get such bad reputations.. But let me tell you- Rats are great to have! They are fun loving, adorable, and just all around great! The only sad thing, is that they live short lives :'(

I have had many rats of the years, and they all have their own special little personalities, and I love them all :)!

Enjoy!

(Mom Rat ^. She was the female that started everything. She had my very first litter of babies, and got me really hooked on rats :) ) RIP Mom Rat!

(Nakie, and Mom Rat ^. The cutest little rat couple, hehe :). Nakie was an amazing rat! He father lots of adorable little babies ^.^)  I had a line of Nakies. So everytime I got a hairless rat I would put the name Nakie in there :p. RIP Nakie!

Jumbo Nakie and Big Nakie ^. Wow, my twin brothers. They were so amazing! These 2 literally went EVERYWHERE with me! RIP Jumbo Nakie and Big Nakie!

Nakie and Little Nakie. Little Nakie was the first hairless rat I ever bred :) HE was so adorable! RIP Little Nakie!

This is Harry ^. I don't normally pick favorites, but Harry was my pride and joy. He went every single place I went. He would lay in my purse, sleep on my shoulder, cuddle in my blanket; It didn't matter, he was always there.
Harry was known as a "Double Rex" when rats have been bred with Rex Rats (Curly Haired Rats) they sometimes get Double Rex's. Double Rex are special because every week or so, their hair will fall out, and grow back in a new place. They are truly unique!

I love you Harry! RIP!

The Nakies ^! I used to have a little rat club house that all of my rats would take turns playing in. There were all of my Nakie's at the time. Hehe, they are just so adorable, and make me smile! :)
Those were my first Nakie's, and that picture was probably taken about 5 years ago, so sadly, all of the Nakie's pictured are not passed away.
RIP Nakie's!

Jordan and Doug ^. Hehe, these 2 are always together! (Jordan Left - Doug Right)

This is Hairy ^. He was another amazing Rattie! He lived a very very long life, More then 5 years! He was an adopted rat, and he was neutered. He was so sweet, but let me tell you, he was a little hog! He would steal all of the food from the other rat's, and he would hide it. Like, if another rattie was eating something, he would run up and grab it from them, and stash it in the corner. It was very funny :P Good Memories!
I love you Hairy! RIP!

Gumby ^. Such an adorable Rattie! He has the most unique face, and I just love that about him! Gumby is kinda shy, but he loves the lady rats :p

Lil Luis and Lana ^ . Hehe, these 2 make the cutest pair :) They always take the most perfect photos!

This is Carlos ^. And my fake Morumoto rat plushie :P Carlos is brothers with my other rat, Luis. Carlos has to be one of the shyest rats of all time, but he warms up to you so fast, and he just gives so much love! :)

Lil Luis ^. Lil Luis is the model rat :P. He is so photogenic, and all of his pictures just always turn out perfect :). Lil Luis can be kindof sassy, but he's just perfect :)

This page will be constantly be updated, so check back often! If you have any Ratties, and you would like to see his, or her picture here, please email me! I would gladly include your photos on the Rattie Page :))

  3. Your rats are cool! I think they get a bad rap. I see them outside sometimes and heard they eat insects. I hardly ever see a roach in the house so I bet they eat them.

  4. Your rats are gorgeous! Sadly I had to get my daughters rat put to sleep just yesterday. While I never wanted a rat, I grew to love him, he was such a pleasant boy who showed much affection, and also LOVED frozen peas!

  5. I'm a rat lover too! Is it possible for followers to send pics of our ratties to publish on your site. Rats need all the good PR they can get! (-:

  9. I've had 6 rats total throughout the years but after I lost my final rat Ernie (RIP Ernie, I miss you so much!!) I could not take losing another rat because they really don't live that long. Ernie lived the longest out of all the rats I have had, but it was only almost 4 yrs. and that just tore me up!! Ernie was so smart, he would come when called, walk across a string from one point to another, he would sit on the back of my neck and fall asleep, he would sit in my sweatshirt pocket and just peek out when I would take him out with me. I guess I could go on forever, because very few people understand how wonderful rats can be to have as pets!! I am so glad I found your blog, I will definitely be back!! A friend of mine had a hairless rat and he grew on me because I had never seen a hairless in real life. I think you rock for bringing people into the wonderful world of rats!!

  11. I love all your Nakie's! We've had 3 hairless before and they were all fabulous! Our first rat we ever had was a hairless my daughter named Sandy and she was the best pet and loved to hang out on your shoulder.

  12. Dear Amanda,
You're amazing with your love to your gorgeous rats. I never had rats, just hamsters. But even those littlies can be smart. It is hard to lose them that frequently. But I love these animals and admire people who share this love for these creaturs that make best of friends.
I have 3 cornish rex cats now. I call them my rats! They are adorable too.
    Your new GFC frind.

  18. I love all your pictures, I have 5 female ratties myself, 3 hairless, and 2 with hair, and they are such great entertainment! I agree, they do get a bad reputation, everyone automatically thinks like NYC sewer rats, and that is SOOOO not the case!

  21. I too, once had a (pet)rat: RIP Anenome.

She was a lovely young, female, white lab rat who I was assigned to perform a hysterectomy on in my "Small Animal Surgery" Biology Class.

The assignment was to successfully perform this unnecessaary (except to pass the coursem or course) surgery, nurse the rat back to health and then... hand it in to be gassed (er, euthanized...)

Hey, I'm not into killing animals under any circumstances (beyond personal survival) but after one has lovely performed dangerous surgery and then nursed a sweet innocent creature back to life there is simply no way I was going to abandon it to such a cruel fate.

So Anemone cam home to live with me, two cats and a dog and we all lived happily together for over two years... One big happy family!

  22. Whoa....you are really a rat lover. Wow!! that's awesome. I'm so scared of rats, I don't know why, but as long as I remember, I always scared of them. And I have 5 cats in my home, so I don't think my cats and the rats can live happily together *big grin*

  25. One of the best pets I ever owned was a rat. I do not know if it was male or female, but we called it "he" and his name was "Whiskers."

    He loved Hershey Kisses candy.

They do live too short of a life. It's been over 7 years and I still miss him. He used to hang out with me on my desk when I would be online and that is a LOT.

  26. These pictures and stories remind me of my own beloved "lab rat" - affectionately named Anenome (May she Rest In Peace)whom I met while taking a class in "Small Animal Surgery"...

My assignment was to perform a hysterectomy on "the rat" (aka my new ward/charge/patient/pet, FRIEND!)- nurse it back to health and then turn it in (like an assignment or "homework") and then turn my back and forget about the bond me and Anenome had forged during this very intimate shared experience!) and block out the knowledge that my heroic survivor, Anenome would be carelessly euthanized and toss away like trash or industrial waste...

NO WAY! I kidnapped her and brought her home to join our family Zoo - which at the time included two cats and two dog. Anemone more than held her own as a true member of the family!
